After a rather long wait 20001 has returned to Butterley to have the generator repairs carried out. Lester and Steve welcomed the loco back from Barrow Hill by road and have successfully removed the power unit. The generator split is progressing, to allow a specialist repair to be carried out off-site. There are plenty of other tasks to be carried out to the loco over the next few months.
The cosmetic repairs of 20057 continue at the Midland Railway under the custodianship of the CTLS, more information to follow next month on the work to date and plans for the near future.
Michael Owens engines 20142 and 20189 are due to leave the Midland Railway Centre next month to earn their keep on a mainline hire contract.
20205 and 20227 are working well as a pair on hire at Ripple Lane, whilst opportunities for preserved running and gala's are limited at present the income from their hire is helping to fund the repairs to 001, as well as refurbishing and purchasing spares, plus the fantastic work at Butterley. After some initial fuel pump problems 205 has settled down and is working reliably, with maintenance and regular exams ongoing at Ripple Lane.
